How to rent an umbrella.

Before you go

• Download the umalu app and sign up with your phone number or email.
• Add a payment card in the app.
• Allow location access while using the app, so it can show umbrellas near you.
• Bring a charged phone. You need it to start and to end the rental.

Renting, step by step

1. Open the app.
2. Make sure you are signed in and have a payment method added.
3. Find an umalu umbrella on the map or right there on the beach.
4. Scan the QR code on the handle.
5. Check the price on screen and tap to confirm. The lock opens.
6. Set up your shade and relax.
7. When you're done, close the umbrella.
8. Push the lock button and make sure it's locked.
9. Confirm the end of your rental in the app. You'll see the total right away.

The rental keeps running until you end it in the app. If you walk away without ending it, the time keeps counting.

If something goes wrong

• The lock doesn't open. Don't force it. Scan the code again and check that your phone has a connection. Still stuck? Write to support@umalu.app with the code printed next to the QR.
• You can't end the rental. Close and lock the umbrella anyway, take a screenshot of the app, and write to us. We'll stop the clock at the time you locked it.
• The umbrella is damaged. Don't use it. Tell us which one, and pick another.

Wind and weather

Beach wind can pick up fast. If it gets gusty, close the umbrella and end your rental. Don't use the umbrella during a thunderstorm. Shade cuts the sun but is not sunscreen, so keep using sun protection.
